Cootes Paradise Waves

MAY 13, 2018 Traversals

When breezes are light, so too are the waves they create at Cootes Paradise: the wetlands on the western end of Lake Ontario, where fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals (bipedal and otherwise) find shelter and solace. Tuning in to this subtle but steady wave pattern reveals that even a slight movement of the camera makes its mark as a perturbation within an otherwise zen waterscape. If I were a turtle, I imagine, then the presence of humans, too, might seem a perturbation. Something like an imperfection in an artwork: something to tolerate. Then again, if you encounter a happy accident, you might also opt to go with the flow.
