(In)errancy

FEB 6, 2014 Sous Sol

One of my former pastors regularly prefixed scriptural readings with the injunction “listen to the inerrant Word of God”. This would make me squirm, because I knew that (as with any other human document) there were plenty of errors in the text, and its interpretive context. On the other hand, there’s value in insisting on things, and in the delineation of clear propositional boundaries. When living in community, the force of one’s commitments may as well carve out a place to be. In this reflection, I wonder out loud, how I can meaningfully carry those commitments forward with integrity.
