Flesh Word

DEC 15, 2011 Landscrapes DEVOTIONS

Incarnation is violent,
what with so much divinity at steak.
Our humanity but the irony
of goldleaf over shattered West Bank roadkill.
Soft she(e)p(herds), hard to come by
amidst the glittering plastic of Christmas metal and flesh,
Decry the 100-Watt limits of yet another desk lamp
another vengeful, man-made, missile-equipped God.
Was the work-ethic of the bee a signpost to
inspire anger?
But if Ludwig Feuerbach were here, I’d still invite him
to the Hamilton airshow and ask
In spite of looping hearts, and spiritual jargon in the sky,
“Why can’t it be both (and)?”
